Experience becoming, find out what is inside of you, make your soul grow
The only RL-HF my homies care about is Real Life Human Flourishing
I have a handful of pieces of writing that at first encounter reached so deeply into my soul that when I saved them in my Pocket (RIP) i tagged them from the get-go as a #pillar of my sense of self. I wanted to spend a little bit of time on one of them today.
Web 1.0 as I remember it was beautiful and innocent, full of people who did things to just do things. In it, there were a handful of blogs that I really loved. Few of them are still around, like PostSecret and Dear Photograph, and some of them have turned into a substack (which I find hilarious) like Letters of Note. It’s funny to now see their evolution into tours, books and merch as web 2.0 and its attention economy orientation really took hold. Anyway, this particular piece is from the latter, which collects interesting letters from historical figures. The letter that really got me was this one from Kurt Vonnegut to a bunch of schoolkids. It’s very short and poignant, give it a read.
I think it ties in well with what we talked about recently - big world; lots to do! - in that when we experience becoming we find out what is inside of us, and some of what we find might be the firestarter to one of our many lives that we are meant to live.
I hope the letter resonates with you too, and I hope you do something today to practice becoming just for the sake of it.
Remember: tell nobody - this is for you! In fact, if you are among the first 10 people to do something for yourself and not tell me, I will send you a gift in the mail.
Februarily yours!
